Here is a ‘better late than never’ post which concludes The Best of 2013 series… and it is really something special. It had to be pretty spectacular didn’t it though, really? as my pick of the crop of 2013, and this song delivers, in every way – i promise. So, without any more of an introduction, because I really could not do it enough justice – please listen, breathe in, and enjoy this moment of sheer musical poetry.
I expect that this was the most sung-along to song of 2013. Pretty much a perfect pop song, The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis nailed it on the head when she said that the reason that this song is so special is because it masters the key of becoming an instant classic; ‘[it] somehow sounds instantly familiar as if it has always existed, a classic that you had temporarily forgotten’. For this party hit I really believe that 2013 is just the beginning.
Watch this space and get your groove on.

Number 3. Vance Joy – Riptide
Catchy, melodic, whistle-along Indie-pop jam and it’s still bouncing around my head 8 months later. Its a bit of a see-saw of a song, diving back and forth from whimsical to punch-packing. Just when you think the lyrics are taking you down a deep and moving path they swoop back to being light-heartedly ironic. Kind of like me.
‘I love you when you’re singing that song and I got a lump in my throat because You’re gonna sing the words wrong’
I couldn’t leave you for today on that note now could I? As beautiful as Tom Odell’s offering is, this is supposed to be a fun place to hang out, so today brings a double dose of the 10 best list. And in at number 4, is none other than this beauty. Fresh out of Glasgow, this is synth-pop at its foot-tapping, feel-good best. Press play, feel your body start to go and the smile start to spread, and enjoy this absolute choooooooon!
