Lorde – Royals

Released when singer/songwriter Lorde was just 16 years old, this song encompasses everything she believed to be wrong with the music industry’s relationship with materialism and hedonism: ‘But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom. Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room’.Β The lyrics are edgy and the beat catchy and unless you spent the best part of 2013 on the moon, there is no way you could of escaped it. It landed on to charts all over the world like a punch, bulldozing the Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus pop out of the way, which was enough reason to initially fall in love, and yet the song holds its own and is pretty darn great.

Crank it up!
